CHARLOTTE – The North Carolina Department of Transportation and the South Carolina Department of Transportation are launching a major survey this week to better understand how people travel throughout the region.

This is a rare opportunity for households to provide vital information that will help set transportation priorities for many years. The survey material received will help transportation planners prioritize financial investments for local transportation projects, improve mobility, and reduce congestion.

At least 4,750 households in the 12-county Metrolina region, which includes Stanly County, are expected to participate in September through November. Responses will be used to understand where people are traveling in their daily lives, how they get there, and how much time and effort it takes in your mobility. The survey results create a snapshot of how the transportation systems in the region are used. Planners will use that snapshot to plan and develop mobility improvements. All survey results are confidential and information received is not shared to external parties.

How can residents help? Participate in the survey if you receive an invitation in the mail. The mailing is from the Charlotte Department of Transportation and includes NCDOT and SCDOT logos.

All participants will receive a gift card to compensate for the time and effort needed to join the survey. Additional incentives will be offered for the travel reporting portion of the survey.

Community leaders can help as well. Let your constituents know this survey is happening and encourage them to participate if they receive an invitation.
