Badin Library

Children are invited to Storytime and Crafts at 10:30 a.m. today, and again on Oct. 24.

Town Council

The council meets tonight at 7 in Town Hall, 36 Falls Road. Visitors are welcome.

Badin VFD

The community is invited to the firehouse for barbecue on Oct. 14 beginning at 11 a.m. No more snaking lines of cars. Instead, please come inside to enjoy the company of friends along with $10 plates of pork or chicken, slaw, chips, bread, homemade dessert and beverage. Carry out plates (beverage not included) are also available.

5K Run/Walk

The 5th Annual Best DAM 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 21. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. at Pine Street Park. The wooded course includes the Narrows Dam as the turnaround point. Age groups from 14-under to 60 and over are invited to participate. Other information is available on the Uwharrie Dash Facebook page and by calling 704-983-3274.

Better Badin Fish Fry

The 5th Annual Better Badin Fish Fry will be noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in front of Loafers and Legends, 24 Falls Road. Please drive up to-pick up a plate of fried flounder, French fries, slaw, hush puppies and beverage for $15. Homemade banana pudding will sell for $5 per pound.

Sunshine Club

All are invited to an informative program and covered dish lunch on Oct. 24 at Badin Baptist at 10:30 a.m. Please bring a favorite dish to share.

Bread Giveaway

Free bread and rolls will be available on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Badin VFD station.

Lupus Support Group

The support group meeting originally scheduled for Oct. 28 has been postponed. Please refer to the Facebook page of the Lupus Support Group of Stanly County where new information will be posted.

Historic Badin Pow Wow

Falls Road is the place to be for the 3rd Historic Badin Pow Wow Oct. 28-29. Gates are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Two days of intertribal dance, storytelling, flutes and drums provide a window into the heritage of Native Americans. New this year are hoop dancing and the Historic Educational Village.

Saturday’s Grand Entry is at noon, with awards and introduction of the Pow Wow Princess at the end of the day. Sunday’s Grand Entry is at 1:30 p.m. Craft vendors will be on hand all weekend.

Admission and parking are free. The town’s Facebook page gives some additional details.

Halloween Events

Better Badin’s Boofest and the VFD Truck and Treat will be Oct. 31. More information is to come in two weeks.

Palestine UMC

Palestine Pals meet for lunch today at 11:30 a.m. at the Rosebriar, 528 Wiscassett Ave., Albemarle.

The church will have a fall festival Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by Trunk or Treat in the fellowship hall. A poor man’s supper, sponsored by Palestine UM Women, will offer plates for $10 beginning at 4 p.m.
