On Wednesday, an Albemarle Police officer, serving as a school resource officer, received a report of an individual with a firearm on campus at Albemarle High School.

An investigation led to a juvenile being arrested for possession of a firearm on school grounds, according to an Albemarle press release.

A Stanly County Schools spokesperson said a School Messenger was sent to parents Wednesday afternoon:

Good afternoon,

A weapon was confiscated from a student at the end of the school day that caused the school to go into lockdown.  Students were released in an orderly fashion out of an abundance of caution. At no time were staff and students in danger from this incident. Safety of our students is paramount, and we thank you for your support during this time.
