Filing for affiliated candidates has closed for the March 5, 2024 primary.
Primaries will happen in races with more than one candidate of the same party.
Unaffiliated candidates seeking partisan office must file a petition with the election board office by noon, March 5, 2024.
Candidates include:
• incumbent State Sen. Carl Ford (REP) of China Grove and Tangela (Lucy Horne) Morgan (DEM) of China Grove for the District 33 seat, which includes Stanly County. This would be a rematch of the 2022 election;
• Cody Huneycutt (REP) of Oakboro, Brandon King (REP) of Albemarle and Daniel Quick of Badin for the House District 67 seat occupied by Rep. Wayne Sasser, who is not seeking reelection.
• incumbent Scott Efird (REP) of Locust, Melvin Poole (LIB) of Oakboro and Levi Greene (REP) of Stanfield for county commissioner at-large;
• incumbent Peter Asciutto (REP) of Albemarle and Billy Dean Mills (REP) of Albemarle for county commissioner District 5;
• incumbent Bill Sorenson (REP) of Norwood for Stanly County Board of Education District 2;
• incumbent Glenda Gibson (REP) of Albemarle for Stanly County Board of Education District 3;
• incumbent Vicky Watson (REP) of Gold Hill for Stanly County Board of Education District 4;
• incumbent Carla Poplin (REP) of Albemarle for Stanly County Board of Education District 5;
• incumbent Rufus S. Lefler III (REP) of Albemarle and Meghan Almond (REP) of Stanfield for Stanly County Board of Education At-Large;
• incumbent Jennie Helms (REP) of New London, George T. Burris (REP) of Albemarle and Misty Enoch (REP) of New London for Register of Deeds; and
• Adam M. Elkins (REP) of Albemarle for NC Superior Court Judge District 28 seat 1.
