The Harlem Wizards will visit Merner Gym at Pfeiffer University on Feb. 1 for an evening of entertainment.
The Wizards will play a game at 7 p.m. against the Stanly Dragons, a team of Stanly County Schools teachers, principals and community leaders. SCS Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Dennis will coach the team.
The event is a fundraiser for scholarships, grants to schools and communities, and programs through the Albemarle Rotary Club.
Pre-game, any child or teen with a Wizards jersey can warm up with the Wizards. Throughout the game, audience members will be asked to volunteer in different contests and acts. At the end of night final moments include an invitation to all students to come onto the court for a dance celebration with the Wizards.
The event will feature a variety of interactive extras to complement the Wizards, including pregame “Wiz Kids” warm-up, contests, comedy, slam dunks, audience participation, merchandise giveaways and more.
“We are delighted to host the Harlem Wizards,” said Mandi Rogers, president of the Albemarle Rotary Club. “They are superb showmen who deliver fantastic all-ages entertainment for a great cause. We appreciate the support of our community and the sponsors who will make this event a great success. We guarantee a fun time for everyone.”
Sponsorships for the game are available until Jan. 18. Contact a Rotary Club member for more information on being a sponsor.
The Albemarle Rotary Club has provided grants for community projects and scholarships for many years. The Albemarle Rotary Club has around 90 members and meets weekly on Thursdays at noon at Atrium Health Stanly’s Magnolia Room.
Founded in 1962, the Harlem Wizards have played more than 15,000 games throughout the U.S. that have raised more than $25 million for schools and charitable causes. The Wizards have also played in more than 25 foreign countries on six continents.
Admission in advance is $10 for students, $12 for the public, $20 for reserved seating and $40 for Courtside Plus. Children under 3 are admitted free.
Courtside Plus ticket holders receive first-row seating and meet privately with some of the Wizard players before the game for a meet-and-greet in the Falcon Club at Merner Gym.
