Norwood Police arrested a man Friday following a high speed chase into town from Wadesboro.

“Mr. Johnny Robinson of Wadesboro committed a hit and run in Wadesboro. Upon the arrival of law enforcement Mr. Robinson fled in his vehicle leading officers on a high speed chase,” police said in a Facebook post.

Police used stop sticks, but due to the “speed of the vehicle in excess of 100 mph, the impairment of the driver and his inability to control his vehicle he ran over the curb, striking a fire hydrant and two utility poles before overturning his vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire and officers quickly extracted the driver to safety.”

Police said he faces many charges. He was held under a $40,000 bond.
