Stanly County community theatre group The Uwharrie Players recently had its annual awards banquet at Central United Methodist Church to celebrate its 2023 season.

Winners were:

• Favorite Show – “Honky Tonk Angels,” directed by Ashlyn Keller-Silver;

• Best Actor – Christian Payne as Billy Cane in “Bright Star;”

• Best Actress – Madeline Medlin as Margo Crawford in “Bright Star” and Darlene in “Honky Tonk Angels;”

• Best Supporting Actor – Gary Moran as Daddy Cane in “Bright Star;”

• Best Supporting Actress – Darby Shaw as Lucy Grant in “Bright Star;”

• Favorite Character (Ensemble) Actor – Judson Busch as Stanford/Stationmaster/Storyteller in “Bright Star;”

• Favorite Character (Ensemble) Actress – (Tie) Marnie Stoker as Millie Bromsley in “Down to Earth” and Nancy Cottingham as Dr. Norquist/Storyteller in “Bright Star;”

• Favorite Male Comic Performance – (Tie) Todd Basinger as Pilone in “Down to Earth” and Zac Baker as Daryl Ames in “Bright Star;”

• Favorite Female Comic Performance – Suzanne Holshouser as Sue Ellen in “Honky Tonk Angels;”

• Favorite Newcomer – Robin Rogers;

• People’s Choice Award – Teresa Crump as Miss Mason in “The Hundred Dresses;”

• People’s Choice Award – Herchelle Smith as Diana Clump in “Down to Earth;”

• People’s Choice Award – Taylor Parker as Alice Murphy in “Bright Star;”

• People’s Choice Award – Suzanne Holshouser as Sue Ellen in “Honky Tonk Angels;”

• Sam Holshouser Award – Kent Harkey and Edna Lipe-Harkey; and

• Joan Giglio Award – Christian Payne;

The Uwharrie Players will kick off the production season with “Miss Nelson is Missing the Musical” (Theatre for Young Audiences) in late February. Audiences can also look forward to the rest of the 2024 season: “Southern Fried Nuptials” in April, “The Addams Family the Musical” this summer and “Four Old Broads” in November.
