Man charged in homicide now in custody in Albemarle

The man charged in a homicide that occurred on Friday is now in
custody.

Otis Eugene Burns, 49, turned himself into law enforcement Saturday morning.

Burns faces charges including first degree murder, possession of firearm by felon and discharging firearm into occupied dwelling.

On March 1, officers were called to the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue at approximately 1 a.m. for a well-being check. Upon arrival, officers found 47-year-old Duane Lamont Perry deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigation revealed Perry was a visitor and not a resident at the unit where the incident occurred.

This is the first homicide in Albemarle since September.
