Jennie Helms, who was named Register of Deeds in October 2023 upon the retirement of Suzanne Lowder, soundly defeated challengers George Burris and Misty Enoch in Tuesday’s GOP primary.

Helms collected 6,933 votes (67%), followed by Burris with 2,291 (22%) and Enoch with 1,170 (11%).

“It’s an absolute honor to be elected and I’m excited to continue in my role as Stanly County Register of Deeds,” said Helms. “I am truly humbled by the overwhelming support of the community. I look forward to working with my staff and being able to serve the great citizens of Stanly County.”

Helms’ challengers in the race offered congratulations as well.

“I am very thankful and appreciative for all the support from my friends and family through this election,” said Burris.

“Congratulations to Jennie on a job well done through the primary. I know she will continue to do a great job as Register Of Deeds for Stanly County for many years to come and I wish her the very best.”

Likewise, Enoch was grateful for the support she received and wished Helms well going forward.

“I believe everything worked out for the best,” she said. “I learned a lot from this journey, and it forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I also got to meet Jennie, and learned that she’s a great person who knows the job, and she is very deserving.”
