The N.C. Department of Transportation has scheduled a traffic shift on the bridge taking N.C. Highway 24-27 over Rocky River between Midland and Locust, part of a $6 million contract awarded to Mooresville contractor Dane Construction in the fall of 2022. The bridge was built in 1923 and rebuilt in 1957.
Currently, the westbound bridge handles both directions of travel while the new bridge is being built. Beginning March 18, contract crews will shift eastbound traffic to use the right lane on the new bridge. The left lanes will remain closed in both directions to remove median crossovers and complete grading, paving and striping work.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
