Locust Police Department alerted residents that shots fired at Walmart Saturday night were accidental, according to a Facebook post.

At 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Locust officers responded to the report of “shots fired” inside Walmart.

“Upon arrival out of an abundance of caution and per their training and experience multiple Locust officers made entry to the business to immediately confront the possible threat which also involved them ordering individuals who were trying to enter the store to leave,” the post read. “Upon investigation, it was discovered that a customer was grocery shopping and when they bent over to grab items, a revolver they were carrying fell out of their holster to the floor causing the firearm to discharge into the ceiling of the business. No persons were injured as a result of the discharge with the only property damage being to the business.”

The shooting did not involve criminal motives, police stressed.

Locust officers continue to investigate and charges related to the “negligent discharge” are expected, police said.
