BADIN/PALESTINE NEWS: Litter Patrol, Loch Festival and Lupus Awareness

Litter Patrol

Please meet at the Gazebo at 8:30 a.m. May 10 and join the effort to give Badin sidewalks and streets a welcoming and litter-free appearance. Reflective vests, gloves and bags will be provided.

Loch Badin Festival

The grounds of the 1913 Badin Inn will showcase festival vendors, entertainers, educators and athletes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 11 for the Loch Badin Celtic Festival and Highland Games.

A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to Tunnel to Towers, a nonprofit dedicated to ending veteran homelessness.

On the day of the festival, get a schedule of events at the Better Badin Information tent on Falls Road, along with tickets for the Narrows Dam Tour and raffle tickets for a patio cabana. Shuttle service to the Inn begins at the Better Badin tent.

The schedule of events on the grounds of the Badin Inn is as follows:

• Highland Games will be throughout the day;

• 10 a.m. – Festival Opens;

• Cellar Creek Highland Cows are available until 2 p.m.;

• 10:15 a.m. – Dancers from Annandale Center for Scottish Dance;

• 10:45 a.m. – Pipe & Drum Processional with NCSU Pipes & Drums and An Gorta Mor Memorial Pipes & Drums;

• 11 a.m. – Opening Ceremony;

• 11:30 a.m. – Annandale Dancers;

• noon – Raglan Road, guitarist and vocalist Trip Rogers and multi-instrumentalist Neil Anderson;

• 1 p.m. – Pipe & Drum Performance;

• 1:30 p.m. – Mountain Muse, traditional Celtic folk tunes with fiddle and vocals;

• 2:30 p.m. – Military Appreciation Council Parade presented by the Scottish American Military Society;

• 3 p.m. – Raglan Road;

• 4 p.m. – Mountain Muse; and

• 5 p.m. Awards.

Lupus Awareness

May is Lupus Awareness Month in support of anyone faced with a diagnosis or with learning to care for a friend or family member touched by the autoimmune disease.
Information is available from former Badin resident S’era McCall on her Facebook page, or at www.lupus.org. Consider wearing purple on World Lupus Day May 10.

Town Business

Limb and Brush Pickup is underway today.

The Badin Town Council meets May 14 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Visitors are welcome.
Better Badin

Anyone interested in volunteering for an hour or two during the Loch Badin Celtic Festival may email contact@better-badin.org or Event Chairman Tim Irvin at tdirvin4@gmail.com.

The next regular meeting of Better Badin members and visitors is May 13 in the fellowship hall of Badin Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Badin Library

Storytime and Crafts for children of all ages is May 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Palestine Community Church

Mothers and daughters are invited to a celebration banquet on May 11 at 6 p.m. in the Hut.

Palestine Pals’ monthly adult luncheon at Rosebriar Restaurant is May 14 at 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to pack food bags for Badin Elementary students on May 21 at 5:30 p.m. Delivery will be the next morning.

Morrow Mountain

A Spring Bird Walk is planned for May 11 from 9-10:30 a.m. Please meet at the boathouse.

Registration is required for Kayaking 101, an introductory experience for kayakers 14 years and older and scheduled for May 18 to kick off National Safe Boating Week.

Badin Elementary

Donations are needed for the school clothes closet, particularly little girl pants, leggings and shorts, sizes S (5-6) and M (7-8).
