The Carolina Thread Trail and its partners invite the community to a variety of free guided hikes and bike rides in celebration of trails and the outdoors, held on National Trails Day. Celebrated annually on the first Saturday of June, National Trails Day is a way to kick off the summer by spending time in nature. This year, at least one program will be hosted by the Thread Trail or a partner organization in 14 of the 15 counties served by the Thread Trail.

Programs begin as early as 8 a.m. June 1 and continue throughout the day at multiple locations in the greater Charlotte area. See website for locations and details of specific programs.

In Oakboro, artist Wil Bosbyshell will lead a guided hike and color pencil sketching class at the Oakboro Rail Trail at 9 a.m.

Programs will be led by staff or volunteers from the Thread Trail, Catawba Lands Conservancy and other participating partner organizations. Space may be limited for each program and registration is required. Members of the media are welcome to attend.

To end the day, attendees are encouraged to join Thread Trail staff at the new Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Ballantyne for a Trails Party.
