Since 2007 the West Stanly Players have been traveling to New York City to experience Broadway and its surroundings. This year marks the first time since Covid canceled the 2020 trip that the WSP were able to return to the city. Students spent four days in Manhattan. During that time they visited Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and saw the city from the top of Rockefeller Center. They toured the Met and the Broadway Museum, participated in a stage combat workshop with a professional actor and shopped on 5th Avenue and Times Square. Students also visited Soho, Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park and Chelsea Market. The highlight of the trip for everyone was seeing two award-winning Broadway shows, “Wicked” and “Hadestown.” (Above) West Stanly students reenact the famous fountain jump scene in Central Park from the hit tv show “Friends.” From left: Austin Griffin, Jessalyn Simpson, Hadley Herrin, Raegan Sharpe, Lauren Bucholz, Peyton Ritche, Emma Salyer and Lawson Smith.
