Evans to present ‘The Spirit of Juneteenth’

A free one-woman show by actress Carolyn Evans, “The Spirit of Juneteenth,” will be performed at 2 p.m. June 30 at the Albemarle Neighborhood Theater, 219 E. North St., Albemarle.
Evans brings history alive as she embarks on an emotional journey as a woman in Galveston, Texas, who waited generations for freedom. As the soldiers arrived on June 19, 1865, the woman asks, “What Does Freedom Look Like?”
This free program is brought by the Stanly County Historical Society in cooperation with the North Carolina African American Heritage Commission.
