Gray Stone Day School has announced that Dr. Melissa Smith has joined the administrative team.
Smith will serve as the facilitator for the Center of Excellence, where she will oversee educational initiatives and programs to support student learning, teacher development and school operations.
One of these initiatives includes the Career and College Promise, a partnership with Stanly Community College, where students are eligible to enroll in college classes through their high school. One of the many benefits of the CCP Program is that it helps to gain college credits in order for students to finish his/her college journey sooner.
Smith will coordinate online courses and ensure students have access to educational opportunities that align with academic standards while promoting academic growth.
“We are so excited to have Dr. Smith joining us this summer. Her enthusiasm and energy is infectious and she will bring many years of experience with her working in education and with the community,” said Helen Nance, chief administrative officer.
Smith served as principal for 14 years at Central Elementary and most recently as director of community engagement and dropout prevention with Stanly County Schools.
She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida, an M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
She is married to Tim Smith and resides in Albemarle.
Gray Stone Day School is a public charter school and free to attend.
