Morrow Mountain was dedicated as a state park on June 29, 1940. Parts of the park were developed, but much had to be delayed due to the country’s involvement in World War II. After the war ended in 1945, the state looked at the needs of the various parks in the state park system. In November 1946, the State Park Commission shared a list of improvements they requested for Morrow Mountain and one item on the list was a boathouse. Over the following years, a boathouse would appear on the park superintendent’s list of needed improvements. Finally in 1953, the park began construction on a boathouse, shown in today’s picture, that was located at a newly developed parking area about where the old Lowder Ferry had been located. Unfortunately, it was not completed in time to be used that year, but it was ready when the park reopened on May 30, 1954. The park continued to use this boathouse until 2010. The structure was replaced, and the current boathouse was built and later dedicated during April 2012. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
