The following was submitted by Kim McGowen, annual giving officer for Stanly Health Foundation, host of Stanly County’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
The excitement is building for the 12th annual “Dancing with the Stars” event, benefiting the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center. Among the many talented participants are Angela and Mark Padgett, a dynamic duo who are ready to bring their love of dance and community spirit to the stage.
Angela Padgett was born in North Carolina but spent her formative years in Louisiana. She returned to North Carolina in 1996, where she pursued her education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, earning two degrees. These achievements have been instrumental in her success as an entrepreneur, leading her to establish and run three businesses. Currently, Angela is the owner of An Extra Set of Hands Cleaning Service, which she has grown from the ground up since January 2014. As a proud mother of two children, ages 22 and 17, Angela balances her business with her family life.
In October 2022, Angela married Mark Padgett, and the couple has been on an action-packed journey ever since. Their shared interests include hunting, volunteering and, of course, dancing.
Angela’s passion for dance began in her youth, with experiences in ballet, cheer and band. In 2019, she discovered a love for shag dancing, a passion that has only grown over the years. Angela and Mark have even begun competing in shag competitions, and they’re thrilled to bring their moves to the Dancing with the Stars stage.
Angela is eager to make her debut at the event, focusing on both dancing and fundraising to create an unforgettable experience.
Mark Padgett was born and raised in Florida before making his way to North Carolina nearly 20 years ago. A devoted family man, Mark has two sons and two granddaughters.
With more than 38 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, Mark decided to become a full-time business owner two years ago, founding M&A Truck Repair. His entrepreneurial journey began just a month before he married Angela, gaining two stepchildren in the process.
Mark’s interests are as varied as they are passionate. He’s an avid deer and turkey hunter, with many trophies adorning his home, and he’s recently fallen in love with shag dancing alongside Angela. The couple takes lessons with Stephen Balok in Huntersville and enjoys beach trips to dance with shag clubs at North Myrtle Beach.
Mark also finds time to play softball in local men’s leagues and is an active member of Charity Baptist Church, where he has been a member for 17 years.
In November 2023, Mark joined the Bethany Community Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, further demonstrating his commitment to helping others.
Participating in Dancing with the Stars is another way for Mark to give back to the community he loves.
Angela and Mark are excited to take the stage at this year’s Dancing with the Stars event, themed “Magic of Motown.” The event will take place on Sept. 7, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. The couple looks forward to showcasing their dance skills and raising funds for the Butterfly House, an organization that provides essential services to children and families in need.
