Pfeiffer Men’s Golf team places second in tournament

The Pfeiffer University men’s golf team claimed a second-place finish as host of the Jack Ingram/Pfeiffer Fall Invitational as the tournament wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at the par 72, 6,757-yard Tillery Tradition Country Club in Mt. Gilead.
Southern Virginia captured the team title by shooting a two-day total of 587 (+11), six strokes ahead of the Falcons, who finished with a +17 over par 593.
Individually, Pfeiffer had three players place inside the top-1o, with Connor Key shooting an even-par 144 to finish in a tie for third place with four other competitors, including freshman teammate Eddie McDonald, who shot a team-best 68 (-4) on day two of the tournament.
Sophomore Wyatt Reeder claimed a tie for eighth place overall with a 149 (+5) over the two days of competition.
Southern Virginia’s Caden Bertnagole won the individual title by firing a 74 (+2) on day one and concluding with a tournament-record 67 (-5) on day two to finish with a 141 (-3). He narrowly defeated Ian Williams from William Peace, who finished one shot back with a 142 (-2). Williams shot a 68 (-4) in the final round.
Pfeiffer will return to play on Oct. 7-8 at the West Pines Collegiate, hosted by Oglethorpe University at the West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia.
