The Pfeiffer men’s basketball team clinched the USA South regular season title after downing William Peace University 83-74 in Merner Gym on Tuesday night.

After defeating WPU, Pfeiffer won the outright title due to a Mary Baldwin win over Southern Virginia.

The Falcons (15-7, 11-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Daymon Beckwith, who had 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Doug Smith added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Justin Gaten chipped in as well with 11 points.

Smith pulled down seven offensive rebounds to pace the Pfeiffer offense which grabbed 15 boards and turned them into 14 second chance points. Smith also had two of Pfeiffer’s five blocks in the game.

Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 51-41 heading into halftime.

William Peace kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 60-47 advantage before Pfeiffer went on a 13-0 run to even the score at 60 all with 9:30 to go in the contest. The Falcons kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Clayton Robinson’s free throw with 03:01 left to grab the 83-74 victory. Pfeiffer took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 42 points in the lane.

The Falcons will close the 2025 regular season on Saturday with a 2 p.m. Senior Day game against last season’s USA South champion Mary Baldwin.
