In September 1917, word began to circulate that investors in Albemarle and Badin were planning to open a new bank in Badin. The following month, it was announced a new bank, known as the Bank of Badin, was to be formed. Albemarle lawyer R.L. Smith was to be president, and P.C. Moll of Badin would serve as vice president. In early November, F.N. Shannon became the bank’s first cashier. The bank formerly opened on Dec. 2, 1917, in a one-story building on Pine Street that it shared with the local bakery. The bank did well in the early years but soon needed more space. In 1919, a new two-story building was constructed at the corner of Falls Road and Walnut Street. The bank occupied the first floor, and there were four offices upstairs. Like many other businesses during the Depression, the bank was forced to close its doors in May 1932. It took several years for the bank’s liquidation to be finalized. According to the Feb. 5, 1937, Greensboro Daily News, depositors got back all of their money plus 5.5% interest. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
