Hold Big Pharma
accountable
I am a proud Trump supporter and a retiree from Richfield. Luckily I am pretty healthy but I do have to take a few medications.
Something has got to be done to Big Pharma’s continued hits on folks like me. Drug prices are really unbelievable but you better believe their profits have never been higher.
In the last 10 years, the prices of neccessary, life-saving medicines have rose to prices that are hardly believable, with some drug prices jumping by as much as 5,000%.
What’s really crazy is this price inflation seems to be only an American issue. Prescription drug costs in the United States are over three times higher than in other developed nations, even for the exact same products. These price hikes are inexcusable, helping make pharmaceutical companies rich at the cost of American families and retirees like me.
This has been going on a long time and I hope President Trump, Senator Tillis and our Republicans in Congress can do something about it.
Big Pharma companies try to fly under the radar, spending millions in advertising and promotions to protect their empire, but the truth is clear: it is the pharmaceutical companies themselves who are creating this problem.
To bring a little light to the subject, more than half of all U.S. adults report being worried about affording prescription medications for their families.
Government researchers at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) said that between 2022 and 2023, Big Pharma raised the cost of more than 4,200 drugs — with nearly half of them passing regular inflation.
At the same time, a report from the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) Showed that Big Pharma’s price hikes cost U.S. taxpayers $1.27 billion in 2022 alone. However, while hardworking Americans struggle, Big Pharma companies paid just 10% in taxes in 2022 and even received a tax refund in 2023.
This is a key time for our elected officials to act and put an end to the anti-competitive and unjust practices of Big Pharma.
For these reasons, I ask President Trump and our North Carolina Republicans in Washington, on behalf of all Americans and older folks like me, to hold Big Pharma accountable and take immediate action to cap the price of prescription medications, make Big Pharma pay their fair share in taxes, and halt the revolving door between Big Pharma and the federal government to protect American consumers.
