Casey Lemons of Albemarle recently graduated from North Carolina State University with the highest distinction of summa cum laude. Casey majored in Agricultural Education with minors in Animal Science and Agricultural Business.

Her junior and senior years she served as a TeachAg Ambassador for the university’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. As a TeachAg Ambassador, she attended the National FFA Convention to promote the agricultural education program at NC State. She traveled to high schools throughout the state encouraging students to enroll in agricultural education at North Carolina State University.

A College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) honor and dean’s list student, Casey completed her project for NC Department of Public Education Licensure with Honors.

During her college career, Casey was recipient of several local scholarships: Stanly County Cattleman’s Scholarship, SECU Foundation Scholarship, Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship, and the Stanly County Detachment 2021 Marine Corps League Scholarship. Casey’s academic success was also rewarded by her receiving NCSU’s Jim Graham Scholarship, a National FFA Scholarship and the National Marine Corps League Scholarship.

A CALS teaching assistant, Casey balanced her academic achievements with several extra-curricular activities. She was a member of the Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority, Agricultural Education and Extension Club, the Animal Science Club and Raleigh Wesley Foundation. As first vice president of Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority, she attended Sigma Alpha’s National Leadership Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

She traveled to Haiti with the Wesley Foundation to help with construction of a school for the deaf. One of her fondest memories of that experience was hearing the children sing and perform sign language. She also traveled to Norway and Sweden, participating in NCSU’s Agribusiness and Aquabusiness Study Abroad Program.

Prior to attending North Carolina State University, Casey graduated from North Stanly High School where she was president of the FFA and involved in many academic and extracurricular activities.

This year she will teach agriculture at South Stanly High School that has been without an agricultural curriculum for many years. In addition to teaching agricultural studies, she will help students create an FFA program.

Last year she received the American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. This degree is the highest degree attainable in FFA. One of her long-term goals is to help handicapped children personally experience agriculture.

Casey is a member of Stony Hill United Methodist, where she has been active with the youth development program for many years. She has mentored the middle and high school youth by being a counselor on mission trips and youth retreats.

She is the daughter of Steve and Marcie Lemons and sister of Caleb Lemons, who will attend North Stanly High School this fall.
