Award

The City of Albemarle won the North Carolina Community Development Award presented by the North Carolina Association of Realtors.

A silver loving cup and a plaque were accepted on behalf of the city by Mayor James B. Garrison at a banquet at the association’s annual convention in the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst.

Wiscassett

Wiscassett Mills Company had begun construction on additions to house air conditioning equipment for No. 4 and No. 6 yarn mills, according to Roy L. Holbrook, vice president and treasurer of the company.

The additions were being made along the west side of the mill buildings. Air conditioning for No. 1 Mill would follow and the company hoped to have all the yarn mills air conditioned by the end of 1967. The No. 2 Mill had been air conditioned some months ago.

Football

Gerald Whitley had run for both Albemarle touchdowns against the Concord Spiders as the Bulldogs garnered a 13-7 decision on Friday night in a South Piedmont Conference football encounter.

Whitley, the quarterback, had run for nine yards and one yard in crossing the Spider’s goal line.

Club

At the first meeting of the new club year, the Albemarle Junior Woman’s Club had welcomed seven new members. These members, introduced by Nancy Langley, president, were: Jeanette Caldwell, Patsy Knowles, Pat Gentry, Vickie Brown, Ila Jean Blackmon, Judy McColl and Kay Weathersbee.
