Two people have been taken into custody in Albemarle following a Thursday morning car chase that began in Mecklenburg County with a stolen vehicle.

According to Stanly County Sheriff Jeff Crisco, the chase ended on Concord Road near Harwood Road after stop sticks were deployed.

The vehicle lost control and went into a ditch before coming out, striking a Sheriff’s Office vehicle and then ending up across the road in another ditch.

“Nobody was injured, everybody walked away,” Crisco said.

After fleeing police officers in Mecklenburg, the driver traveled east on N.C. Highway 73, engaging in officers in Cabarrus County before heading to Stanly, Crisco said.

Crisco said the driver was traveling at “excessively high” speeds.

Once in Stanly, police and sheriff deputies briefly pursued the vehicle before the stop sticks were deployed.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of the suspects.
