South Stanly men’s cross-country finishes as 1A state runners-up

The South Stanly men’s cross-country team ended one of the strongest seasons in the program’s history with a second-place finish at Saturday’s 1A state finals.

South finished with 138 team points, besting Christ The King by 13 points. Bishop McGuinness won the 1A state championship with a team-low 65 points.

Josh Huneycutt earned All-State honors, finishing first for the Bulls and 10th overall in 17:35.32. Corvian Community’s Jacob Fiorillo was the 1A individual champion with a time of 16:34.24.

Davis Wright was second for South Stanly, finishing 15th in 17:45.47, followed on his team by junior Ranfere Garcia (48th-18:43.12), junior Jayden Oliver (57th-18:59.92) and freshman Gavin Miller (60th-19:05.02).

Two Gray Stone runners also competed as individuals at the state meet. Wesley Rodgers was 43rd overall with a time of 18:34.70, while A.J. Flynn of Gray Stone was 46th in 18:42.13.
