PEEKING INTO THE PAST: Cabarrus Bank and Trust

In 1968, Cabarrus Bank and Trust announced it would be build a new branch in Stanly County. This new building would be diagonally across the intersection from what is now known as the Stanly County Family YMCA in Albemarle. The building was completed by early summer and the branch first opened on June 14, 1968. Cabarrus Bank’s main Stanly County office was in downtown Albemarle at the corner of First and Main streets and this was just its second location in the county. Architect George Griffin, of Concord, designed the Colonial Williamsburg style building, and the general contractor for its construction was Gaston Morgan. According to newspaper accounts, a formal “Open House” event was held nearly two weeks later on June 26. The public and local dignitaries attended a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony and then participated in tours of the building. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
