The town of Oakboro has started its search for a new administrator.

Doug Burgess has announced his retirement from the position.

Burgess has served as Oakboro’s town administrator since October 2012. During one period of time he served as administrator and mayor simultaneously.

He will officially retire from his position June 30.

According to the job listing, the position will pay between $70,000 and $95,000 and is listed as town administrator/zoning enforcement officer.

“I have had the opportunity to serve on the town board with Doug and been fortunate to get to know him as well,” Oakboro Mayor Chris Huneycutt said Friday. “In earlier years, Doug served as a commissioner as well, so he has a great deal of knowledge of the town, which has proven to be an asset and will surely be missed. On behalf of the town, the board and all employees, we wish Doug the very best in this well-deserved retirement and thank him for all he has done and continues to do for the town of Oakboro.”

Burgess could not be reached for comment.
