Former Stanly County resident earns Academy of Country Music nomination

One of Stanly County’s own is up for a major award.

Tim Galloway, son of Eli and Vicki Galloway of Albemarle, is nominated in the category Acoustic Guitar Player of the Year for the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards.

Galloway, 41, has been in Nashville since 2006. While he toured for the first decade or so, he now is primarily a session musician.

Besides acoustic guitar, the self-taught musician has recorded using the banjo, bouzouki, fauxbro, resonator, ukulele, bass and electric guitar.

Over the last year he has worked on new music from Bryan Martin, Bailey Zimmerman, Chase Matthew, Cody Johnson, Harper Grace, Ian Munsick, Jordyn Shellhart, Josh Ross, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Nate Smith and Randall King.

Galloway learned of his nomination after receiving a few texts of congratulations.

“I had no idea so I finally had to ask what they were talking about,” he said. “I’m happy doing what I’m doing now. Every day is different, but always playing a part into a bigger picture.”

The awards show, hosted by Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks, will live stream on Prime Video at 8 p.m. May 11.

HARDY received the most nominations at seven, including Song of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year.

Lainey Wilson had the most nominations for a female artist, clocking in at six including Female Artist of the Year.

Miranda Lambert received her record-breaking 17th Female Artist of the Year nomination to pass Reba McEntire at 16.
