Morrow Mountain State Park boathouse, riding, hiking trails open

Morrow Mountain State Park is a popular spot throughout the year, but flocks of people really arrive during the summer.

With Memorial Day being the unofficial start to summer, some of the park’s amenities have returned.

The boathouse is now open daily for the season. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent for $10 per hour.

A Junior Ranger challenge and raffle will continue through August.

The Junior Ranger challenge allows participates to learn more about the park while in pursuit of the title of Junior Ranger, complete with patch.

A raffle will also be conducted with drawings at the end of each month.

All who complete the Junior Ranger program at Morrow Mountain can fill out a form at the park office to enter the prize drawing. Prizes include socks, backpacks, mugs and more.

While the park continues to offer many options for summer fun, continued renovations have kept some areas limited or closed.

“The family campground and family cabins are closed through the end of 2023 for major renovations and new construction,” Park Superintendent Jeff Davidson said. “The group campground and backpack campground are open to reservations.

“The swimming pool will be closed through the summer as it is undergoing major renovations and construction of a new splash pad.”

Horseback riders can rejoice in that new sections of trails are scheduled to open this summer following reroutes and renovations.

Hiking trails are also open, though some have been rerouted.
Davidson said trail maps will be released by early summer.
