Sides joins SNAP staff

The Stanly News & Press has added a new multimedia advertising representative to the team.

Shelby Sides

Shelby Sides of Norwood began her role with The SNAP in January, selling print and online advertising.

“We very pleased that Shelby has joined our team,” said Mark Bee, digital manager for The Stanly News & Press. “She brings with her a lot of digital marketing experience and knowledge of the Stanly County market.”

Sides is a 2020 graduate of North Stanly High School. She received an associate’s degree in business administration and several certifications, including marketing, from Stanly Community College in 2022. She then began working in the media marketing industry.

Sides is perhaps best known for her involvement in the Miss America Organization. She was Miss Stanly County’s Teen for 2020 and 2021, serving an extra year due to COVID. She returned to the pageant stage in late 2022 to become Miss Stanly County 2023.

“While spending a year talking and spreading the benefits of attending a community college, I decided to wrap up the year by starting an annual scholarship to help students pay for their education,” Sides said of her year as Miss Stanly. “My time in the Miss America Organization led me to finding my love and passion for helping businesses in this community grow and prosper, which is why I love and cherish my job now. Working at the Stanly News & Press gives me the opportunity to continue to help businesses in this community.”
