One of the most popular baseball entertainment acts in the country is coming to Albemarle Friday night for the Uwharrie Wampus Cats’ home finale.

Ed’s Dinosaurs Live will appear at Don Montgomery Park, starting at 5:30 p.m. when gates open. The performance features dinosaurs powered by animatronics, puppeteers and
remote control. The Wampus Cats play the Race City Bootleggers at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the combined dinosaur show and game are the normal game price of $7/$8 at the gate. Children 3 and under are free.

The Ed’s Dinosaurs Live baseball tour normally features appearances at large minor league stadiums — including the Kannapolis Cannonballers and Brooklyn Cyclones this year. The Wampus Cats organization arranged for them to come to Albemarle as a thank you to area families for their support of the team this summer.

Friday’s show will include a 30-foot Tyrannosaur Rex, dinosaurs roaming the park and the birth of a baby dinosaur hatching from an egg on the field. Ed’s Dinosaurs Live is based in Concord and features dinosaur handlers from Stanly County.

“It has been a great season due in no small part to our tremendous fans,” said Wampus Cats General Manager Jerry Min. “We are so excited to bring this first class production to the park on Friday.”

The Wampus Cats brought out approximately 800 fans to Don Montgomery Park at their two home games this weekend. The team has played well of late too, riding a two-game winning streak heading into the final homestand. The Cats defeated the Carolina Ducks 11-1 on Saturday and defeated the Coastal Plain League Boone Bigfoots 10-9 in Boone on Sunday.

Friday’s game is the last home game of the season for the first-year Wampus Cats team. The team also plays a home game on Thursday night when it takes on the Carolina Disco Turkeys.
