The fast-food restaurant chain Biscuitville is coming to Albemarle. It will be located on the property of the old Sagebrush restaurant along N.C. Highway 24-27.

Albemarle Economic Development Director Keith Tunnell said the restaurant has obtained all of its approvals to begin construction of the new location and has its contractor on site doing demolition work on the former Sagebrush site.

The property is being subdivided which will allow for a second business to locate on the property. The other business will likely be a national coffee chain.

“At this time we do not have an estimated date for completion or opening of Biscuitville,” he said, “but we are very happy to add such a strong regional restaurant chain to our family of businesses in the City of Albemarle.”

Tunnell also didn’t have any information about how many new jobs would result from the new restaurant.

First opened in 1966, Biscuitville currently has more than 60 locations in North Carolina and Virginia, including one in Concord and Salisbury, according to the website. It specializes in breakfast foods and Southern cuisine. The Albemarle location will be the restaurant’s first in Stanly County.

Biscuitville represents another big-name restaurant chain that the city has been able to attract thanks to its ongoing partnership with Retail Strategies, an Alabama-based marketing retail firm that works with towns across the country.

Over the past six years, 11 regional and national retailers have moved to Albemarle, including Chick-fil-A, Dickey’s BBQ and East Coast Wings and Grill, which have resulted in more than 200 new jobs and just under $27 million in total investment, according to an economic development report Tunnell presented to City Council a few months ago.

Tunnell said the city is also in negotiations with a developer that has experience and expertise in the brewing industry who is looking at several downtown locations, though he couldn’t offer any more details at this time.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to bring this business into our downtown as it would be one of the key anchors that will help make downtown Albemarle a destination for locals and visitors from the region and beyond,” Tunnell said.

He noted the Pfeiffer Health Sciences Center, the redevelopment of the Albemarle Hotel and other projects “have resulted in renewed interest in our downtown from prospective business owners and those looking to invest.”
