Student dies following wreck in Rowan

A Gray Stone Day School student died Friday after a wreck in Rowan County.

Noah Steven Nisbet, 16, of Salisbury was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta north on Stokes Ferry when he ran off the right side of the road, where he struck a tree, Highway Patrol told The Salisbury Post.

A North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesperson said troopers responded at 11:10 p.m. to Stokes Ferry Road just southeast of the Morgan Pond intersection.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash.

“We are all very saddened by the loss of Noah. He was a very good student and a fine young man. He will certainly be missed by our whole school community. His family is in our thoughts during this difficult time,” Gray Stone Day School Chief Administrative Officer Helen Nance said. “Our school counselors as well as additional counselors from other schools were made available for students throughout the day. The high school counselor, Roy Morgan, has been instrumental in responding to this tragedy.”

A candlelight vigil is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday on the soccer field at the school.
