South Stanly announced Thursday the hiring of a new football coach.

South Athletic Director Sean Whitley says Terry Shankle has been hired.

Shankle, a Norwood native and a 2009 graduate of South Stanly, attended UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a starter in the defensive backfield. He graduated from UNC with a degree in exercise science.

He has been an assistant coach at Northwoods, Anson and Eastern Randolph high schools.

“We are excited to bring Terry back into our community,” Whitley said. “I think his knowledge and work ethic will be great for our football program and the Norwood community.”
