The National Weather Service predicts thunderstorms for this afternoon into the evening for an area including Stanly County.

These storms may become severe have the threats of large hail and damaging winds, and isolated tornado is possible in the afternoon. The NWS says heavy rainfall may lead to minor flooding.

This outlooks is for the counties of Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, Halifax, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Franklin, Nash, Edgecombe, Davidson, Randolph, Chatham, Wake, Johnston, Wilson, Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Wayne, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson.
