Rev. Lonnie Elwood Whitley, of Stanly County, passed away Monday July 2, 2018.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care from 9-10 a.m. prior to the hour of the service.
Born July 12, 1935, he is the son of the late Lizzie Hathcock Whitley and Lonnie Lester Whitley.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Rev. Whitley served the Lord as a minister for 37 years.
In addition to his church work, he was the owner and operator of Lonnie Whitley Flooring and worked as a supervisor in the Wiscassett Cotton Mill.
He also farmed and raised miniature horses. He loved to both design and build and was very talented at his work.
Rev. Whitley is survived by his wife, Trudie Lowder Whitley; daughter, Johnlyn Whitley Morton (Edgar); and sister, Mary Helen Burleson. Other survivors include granddaughters, Courtney Brabble, Meredith Kelly (Robbie), Kristen Turney (Justin), and great-grandchildren, Lonnie Turney, Staton Kelly and Debra Brabble.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ramelle, brother Rayvon, and in-laws Chloe, Doris and Bennie.
