Eloise Furr

Eloise Poplin Furr, 91, of Albemarle died Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2018 at Woodhaven Court in Albemarle.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at South Albemarle Baptist Church. Rev. Jon Hoey and Rev. Danny Laws officiated and interment followed in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Furr was born March 18, 1927 in Stanly County to the late J. Tom and Eliza Carpenter Poplin. She was a charter member of South Albemarle Baptist Church and along with her husband owned and operated Ponderosa Fish House.
Eloise had a vibrant personality, she never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone she met. She will be remembered by many for giving Christmas Gifts to everyone she met from her “Weezie Bag.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Vernon Calvin Furr, her daughter, Shirla Furr Winslow, three sisters, Apalonia Harwood, Mazelle Lawhon and Juanita Hopkins, and a special friend, Coy Whitley.
She is survived by her son, Vernon Eugene “Gene” Furr (Rilla) of Albemarle; her son-in-law, Jay Winslow of Albemarle; two sisters, Evelyn Blake (Joe) and Tommie Eudy (Jimmy, all of Albemarle; her Brother-in-law, Stephen Hopkins of Albemarle; six grandchildren, Rodney Furr (Leslie), Ginger Brewer (Franklin), Thomas Furr (Kayla), April Harryman (J.R.), Chris Drye, Summer Drye, and Angelia Gaye Layton; and many special nieces and nephews.
