South volleyball tops West in five sets

Two teams with only five combined losses in 17 matches took to the gym floor Tuesday in Norwood. The South Stanly Rebel Bulls hosted the West Stanly Colts in a non-conference county rivalry matchup.

West entered the match on a five-game win streak, including recent wins over Albemarle and Charlotte Latin, while South suffered just its second loss of the season, getting swept by North Stanly, 3-0, the previous Thursday.

The two programs fought to five sets, where the Bulls prevailed in extra points to claim the match, 3-2.

Scores of the match were 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 25-16 and 17-15 in favor of the Bulls (6-3).

Mattie Hinson led South with 18 kills and four aces, adding 13 digs, while Sidney McSwain added 14 kills and a team-high five blocks. Keeli Cisco led the Bulls with 26 assists, adding 13 digs, while Adison Campbell had a double-double with 22 digs and 16 assists.  Morgan Kinley and Star Lee reached double figures in digs with 19 and 16, respectively.

For West (7-3), Addie Barbee led with five aces and 32 of the team’s 58 assists. Riley Barbee led West with 14 of the Colts’ 54 kills and Madison Kee had three of West’s four blocks. Chassity Thomas paced West’s defense with 13 of the team’s 38 digs.
