Virginia “Ginny” Cowan Connell

Virginia “Ginny” Cowan Connell died peacefully on July 27 at Autumn Care of Altavista, Virginia.

She was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on January 23, 1927 and spent most of her childhood in Bladen County.
After graduating in 1947 from Women’s College in Greensboro, she moved to Albemarle to begin her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught at both North Albemarle and Central Elementary Schools.
Ginny was married to the late Richard Douglas “Dick” Connell for 51 years and they were members of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her son, Douglas Connell of Atlanta, Georgia, wife Lee Ann and grandsons Matthew and Graham; daughter Meg Watson of Forest, Virginia, husband Scott and grandchildren Ben Watson, Katie Regner and her husband J., Ellen Elliotte and her husband Myers and her great- grandson Teddy Regner. Also surviving is a special first cousin, Josephine Fields, who was like a sister, and her two nephews, Joe and Doane Cowan.
A service will be held at the First Presbyterian Chapel on Sunday, October 14, at 1:30 p.m.
