Cooperative Extension offers yearlong series of workshops

A series offered through North Carolina’s Cooperative Extension office in Stanly County is growing.

The series that began in 2016 and has continued the last two years on a quarter of half-year basis has now turned into a full year worth of workshops.

Each workshop is $5, or individuals can sign up for the series of $80.

“The series was put together and will be implemented by our whole extension staff,” said Hayley Cowell, one of the county’s extension agents. “Workshops are chosen each year based off county needs and interests.”

The first workshop, “Pecan Growing & Troubleshooting,” is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

It will be taught by horticulture agent Dustin Adcock and focus on how to get the most out of one’s pecan trees from planting recommendations to fertilizing and pest management.

“The Learning to Grow Series has been a great tool for providing hands-on educational workshops for both youth and adults,” said Lori Ivey, county extension director for N.C. Cooperative Extension. “We are excited to have a year’s worth of opportunities available to our citizens. As we hire additional staff, we will add to the series.”
