Missing four players heading into Thursday’s Yadkin Valley Conference women’s basketball game at South Stanly, the Albemarle Bulldogs found a way to win, improving to 19-1 on the season and 12-0 in conference with a 56-33 victory.

Albemarle was without 3-point specialist Tameya Newton and reserve point guard Shada Wall, along with two reserves, for the game.

Zycoria Tillman led the Bulldogs with 17 points including eight in the fourth; for the game, the senior hit 8-of-10 at the foul line.

Armani Baldwin added 16 for Albemarle, hitting 4-of-5 at the free-throw line.

The win was costly for the Bulldogs as Albemarle lost starter Kadajah Little in the game due to injury. Her status was questionable for playing Friday’s home game against West Montgomery (0-15, 0-11).

Albemarle coach Eric Davis said Thursday’s win was “just a great battle short-handed. South played tough and hard; it was just a great game in a great atmosphere.”

Jacy Noble led South (8-12, 5-7) with eight points; the loss dropped the Bulls to one and a half games behind North Moore for fifth place. The Bulls play at fourth-place South Davidson (9-8, 7-3) Friday.
