OAKBORO — Mrs. Christine Ann Smith Green, age 96, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 25, 2019.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Rodney Quesenberry and Rev. Robert “Bob” Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Mrs. Green was born April 13, 1922 in Stanly county, the last surviving child of Grady S. Smith and Sarah Catherine Whitley Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Loy Green; grandson, Jeff Blackwelder; great-granddaughter, Robin Elaine Blackwelder; sisters, Inez Harris and Ruby Wilson; brothers, Cecil and Grady Smith; son-in-law, Deck Blackwelder and daughter-in-law, Diane Green.
Christine retired from the Stanly county school system and later, worked for several years as a caregiver and chef at a nursing home.
She truly loved her family, her church, children and the elderly. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing and large family gatherings.
Survivors include her daughter, Jenoal Blackwelder of Concord; sons, Jerry Green of Oakboro, and Bob Greene and wife, Teresa of Concord; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives, along with her children who will miss Christine dearly.
