Colts women’s basketball season ends in home playoff loss

The No. 16-seeded West Stanly women’s basketball team, hosting its first home playoff game in 10 years, lost to the No. 17 West Davidson Dragons 55-42 in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A state playoffs Tuesday.

Kailey Furr was top scorer for the Colts (14-14) with 15 points on five made 3-pointers, while Raelee Furr added 10 points.

Haley Lowe led the Dragons (18-8) with 21, while Sarah Rabon added 11.

The Colts kept the game close in the first half, trailing 14-8 after one quarter and 27-22 at halftime. West Davidson rallied in the third quarter, limiting West Stanly to one made field goal in outscoring the Colts 13-2.

West Stanly graduates four seniors from this season’s team: Brittany Greene, Madelyn Huneycutt, Callie Donaghue and Kayla Tibbets.
