Gary Mitchell Phillips, 76, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at his residence after a battle with ALS.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 1500 S. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Daniel Dahl officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Phillips family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, 8559 Cook St., Mt. Pleasant.
Gary was born January 28, 1943 in Cabarrus County to the late Ralph N. Phillips and Kathleen Cook Phillips.
Gary went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his return home from service he was the owner and operator of Savastop convenience stores. In his time away from work he enjoyed car restoration and was an avid fisherman.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon Barrier Phillips; son, D. Mitchell Phillips; brothers, James Phillips (Donna), Danny Phillips (Maria); sister, Susan Phillips Simpson; stepdaughter, Myra McCarthy (Kevin); grandchildren, Tyler McCarthy, Kyle McCarthy and Christopher Horton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, P.O. Box 595 Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124.
