The West Stanly softball team maintained its spot atop the MaxPreps standings both in the 2A classification and overall after Friday’s 9-3 road Rocky River Conference win over Central Academy.

Jordan Hatch earned the win in relief for the Colts (11-0, 4-0 RRC) striking out 13 and scattering four hits over five innings of work. Alex Stabler pitched the first two innings for West allowing one earned run on four hits.

Shelby Barbee had a huge game for West Stanly going a perfect 5 for 5 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs. Ashlyn Hughes added three hits for the Colts while Kaitlyn Clark drove in a run.

West was scheduled to play Tuesday against East Montgomery but the game was postponed due to the weather conditions.

The Colts added a non-conference game Wednesday night to the schedule; West Stanly will host Marlboro Academy from Bennettsville, South Carolina. Marlboro (19-1) is ranked 42nd nationally by MaxPreps.com and third in South Carolina, while West Stanly is 97th in the nation and first in North Carolina.
