West softball rolls along with sweep of Anson

With consecutive Rocky River Conference wins on Wednesday and Thursday over Anson County, the West Stanly softball team maintained first place in the conference standings.

The Colts won on the road 6-0 Wednesday then followed the win 24 hours later with a 12-1 five-inning victory over the Bearcats.

Jordan Hatch won both games on the mound for the Colts (16-0, 8-0 RRC). In 12 innings pitched in the two games, she allowed one earned run on five hits with one walk and 29 strikeouts. For the season, Hatch has a 0.29 earned-run average with 222 strikeouts to 13 walks which computes to a 17.1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.

In the opening game Wednesday, Kailey Furr was 2 for 3 for West with two RBIs while Morgan Edwards, Shelby Barbee, and Rosalyn McRae all drove in runs. Hatch has the only extra base hit in the game, a double.

Thursday saw the Colts’ offense explode for eight hits, four off the bat of Barbee who had a double, a home run and four RBIs. Jordan Johnson added a two-RBI double while Hatch, Stockton and Alex Stabler drove in runs.

West Stanly continued to maintain first place in the 2A rankings on MaxPreps by one rating point over Franklin while the Colts dipped to second place overall in the state behind Eastern Alamance (13-1).

This week, West takes on the other undefeated RRC team, rival Mount Pleasant (10-2, 7-0). West plays at home Monday then goes on the road Thursday.
