The North Stanly baseball team inched closer to securing the Yadkin Valley Conference regular season championship with Wednesday’s 10-0 five-inning win over West Montgomery.

Rhett Lowder threw five innings of one-hit baseball for the Comets, striking out 11 with one walk.

The North starter also helped his own cause at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Hunter Sells was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, while Nic Melton added a double, an RBI and two hits. Drew Little and J.D. Whitley also drove in runs.

North was still without its seniors in the game due to last week’s senior trip.

The Comets lead Uwharrie Charter by one and a half games in the conference standings. The Eagles have two games left to play while North’s final regular season YVC game is April 29 at North Moore.
