The North Stanly baseball team entered Tuesday’s Yadkin Valley Conference regular-season finale at North Moore needing a win to secure the regular-season title.

Rhett Lowder threw a complete game effort on the mound for the Comets as North Stanly shut out the Mustangs, 7-0, to finish with a 15-1 mark in YVC play.

Rhett Lowder struck out eight and walked two scattering six hits over seven innings of work.
At the plate, Hunter Sells had three of North’s seven hits while Dylan Eudy and Jacob Clayton drove in two runs each.

“We were able to capitalize on a few mistakes on (the Mustangs’) part late to score a few extra runs,” North head coach Will Davis said.

Saying Rhett threw “another great ballgame,” Davis added “when he is on the mound we have a chance against anyone.”

The North Stanly coach added the Comets bottom of the lineup helped produce runs in the game Tuesday night, including Eudy and Clayton’s RBIs.

With the win, North Stanly will play next Thursday at South Stanly in the semifinals of the YVC tournament. The Comets will play either West Montgomery or North Moore, both of whom are in a battle for the fourth and final spot in the conference tourney.
