The South Stanly men’s basketball team improved on the road to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the Yadkin Valley Conference handing Chatham Central the team’s first conference loss of the season, 63-52.

Justin Gaddy led the Bulls with 27 points including 9-of-11 from the foul line while Addison Tarlton added 16 points and Jaquez Cooke scored 13.

Lucas Skertich paced the Bears (11-4, 6-1) with 20 points.

South’s defense limited Chatham to a season low in points, more than 10 points below the Bears’ average of 62.5 points per game.

“It was a great defensive effort tonight. Quez did a great job on (Michael) Moore and we defended as a unit all night,” South head coach Sean Whitley said.

The Bulls’ coach also credited Gaddy and Tarlton’s offensive efforts.

Sitting at third in the YVC standings, South hosts the conference’s first-place team, North Rowan, Tuesday night.
